Bargaining with the Boss is coming soon!

WHAT JENN IS WORKING ON NOW: STILL Bliss #2--tentatively titled A Deal with the Doctor --finishing it up now!
WHAT JENN IS LISTENING TO NOW: "Santa's Coming for Us" by Sia

Hi, all!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Excited to say that we're about a month out until my next sweet romance
Bargaining with the Boss
comes out!
January 15, 2018

Kinsley just wanted to have some fun for a change. Then she wakes up in a stranger’s bed, with her bridesmaid dress on backward and a hazy memory of what happened at her friend’s wedding. With a quick escape, she can get back to her predictable life. But then she meets her new boss—the same guy she’d woken up next to—and seeing him with a clear head doesn’t make him any less attractive.

Mixing business with pleasure has never been Damon’s style, and easily avoided, but the hotel he just bought comes with an unexpected perk—its manager. “Sensible” Kinsley today is as alluring as “impulsive” Kinsley was the night before, and she talks him into a deal. If she can turn around the hotel by the end of summer, he won’t tear it down to put up a more profitable condominiums.

Their plan is simple…until falling for each other becomes more than they bargained for.

5 Christmas Gifts I want--thanks to Instagram

WHAT JENN IS WORKING ON NOW: STILL Bliss #2--tentatively titled A Deal with the Doctor
WHAT JENN IS LISTENING TO NOW: "Sleigh ride" by Ella Fitzgerald

Hi, all! Happy Tuesday!

If you're on Instagram, I'm sure you've scrolled through targeted ad posts. But I have to admit that whoever is targeting me is SPOT ON. LOL!

I can't believe how effective that marketing is on me. I've clicked and check out many websites this past week alone.
Now, Facebook... not so much.
But Instagram makes me want to click---and buy. Go figure.

I've found quite a few things that have interested me and I forwarded some these ideas to my hubby. (In case he needed help getting me a Christmas gift)

Here are my Top FIVE Christmas Gifts I would love to receive (thanks to Instagram marketing)
  1. This sweatshirt. I think it's obvious as to why. LOL
  2. This jammies/lounge wear outfit. So cute!
  3. Why thank you. Yes, I would LOVE to put my pup on a sock!
  4. I love sushi and think this is one nifty gadget to try to make my own.
  5. A doggie pillow! Again, so me!
And don't get me started on the book recommendations. (That's a whole new post.) LOL

How about you? Are the Instagram ads working for you? Any you care to mention?
Or do Facebook ads work for you more?

On Writing: It's all about mind games

WHAT JENN IS WORKING ON NOW: Bliss #2--tentatively titled A Deal with the Doctor
WHAT JENN IS LISTENING TO NOW: "No Roots" by Alice Merton

Happy Monday!

I just recently returned from the New Jersey Romance Writers Conference and had a BLAST. It was especially fun since two of my critique partners were able to make the trip so we could meet up.

But what I also love about going to conferences is hearing the woes and stories of other authors. It's so nice to be sitting in The Published Author Retreat and think, "Oh, good. It's not just me."

I find that most writers are like me: they don't necessarily like writing. They like to have written.
Getting those first words down is about as painful and nauseating as drawing blood. But once they're down, the editing and fixing is the fun part.

One writer said she writes in scenes not necessarily by chapter. Then when she puts the scenes together she thinks, "Oh, look, I already wrote 50,000 words. It's all about mind games."

Yes, it is all about mind games. At least for me, too.

I just discovered a nifty trick by my critique partner. She told me that if you set a timer for 15 minutes and see how many words you get down, then you can multiply it by 4 and know roughly how much you can do in an hour. Knowing that can help you with NaNoWriMo and how much time you will need to get your word count in for the day.

GENIUS.

I simply use it to psyche myself out. (More Mind Games)
I set the timer for 15 minutes, write, and once I'm done, I "reward" myself and do something else for a little bit. Then I set the timer all over again. I've been more focused in those 15 minutes and as a result much more productive without taking too much time out of my day.

Until next time,
Jennifer

Man Crush Monday

WHAT JENN IS WORKING ON NOW: Still Fast-drafting Bliss #2--tentatively titled A Deal with the Doctor AND final pass edits to Bliss Book #1 (unnamed).
WHAT JENN IS LISTENING TO NOW: "Feels" by Calvin Harris

Hi, all!  Happy Monday!

Well, as stated above I am indeed working on my next sweet romance book. Since I'm just on chapter two, I can only tell you it will involve a fake engagement, a friends-to-lovers romance, and a tortured hero.

My hero will also be a veterinarian. Wow. Tortured and an animal lover.

Can he be any dreamier?

Well, yes. Yes, he can.

Because he looks just like Chris Pine!!!

I confess I've been sporting a crush on him ever since Wonder Woman.

I think it's the eyes...

And I've had a thing for a little scruff on a guy's face.

But clean-shaven is nice too.

Thus, meet my new hero: Dr. Wade Roberts.

It really helps me to have pictures of all my characters when I'm writing. It makes them seem real to me. Sometimes even when I'm stuck, I'll look at them and get inspired.

Until next time, have a great week!

Monday Musings

WHAT JENN IS WORKING ON NOW: Fast-drafting Bliss #2--tentatively titled A Deal with the Doctor.
WHAT JENN IS LISTENING TO NOW: My fav song right now is "Beautiful Day" by Donovan Frankenreiter.

Happy Monday, all! And Happy Labor Day if you are in the U.S.
I'm having both sides of the family coming over for a BBQ. Always an "interesting" time when I do that.

Speaking of interesting...

I had some pretty interesting people observations this summer, which provided the hubby and I plenty of laughter. And in my case, blog fodder, as well. So I have to share.

Here's #1:

My hubby was greeted with ye ole stocking feet guy before we even took off on the airplane. I was sitting across the aisle and was partly disgusted but mostly amused. Naturally, I needed to capture the moment.

#2
Same flight. Only MY seat.
The guy in front of me decided he wanted leg room and put his carry-on in my under-the-seat space.
I actually found this very funny. I slyly kicked it toward him and he eventually moved it to where it belonged.
No confrontation and everyone was happy. Well, I was happy.

#3

Went to the beach one weekend and put down a towel in front of my chair. Started reading and was so engrossed, didn't notice that a family descended upon me and parked their stuff right on top of my towel! Seriously?
Um... it was a big beach.
Had to snap a picture before I politely asked her to step off. :-)

And lastly, #4:
At the beach a different day and looked to my right. This scared the bejeebies out of me. This is actually the top of the guy's head. (His nose is in the towel) But his hat and glasses made it look like a creepy face. :)

And thus concludes my weird observations of the summer. Ha!

How about you? Have any weird people observations or happenings happen lately?

Before I forget... BIG NEWS:
I hit the USA TODAY Bestseller's list for WRONG BROTHER, RIGHT MATCH!

So pour the champagne! I was so overcome with emotion that when I went to tell my husband, he thought someone had died!

**Thank you to my publisher, my editor, my critique partners and everyone who reviewed and bought my book. I am humbled.**

Until next time,

Jennifer

Wrong Brother, Right Match

Anyone But You #3

Jennifer Shirk

Entangled Bliss

Matchmaking guru Kennedy Pepperdine’s life is perfect. Perfect job. Perfect friends. Perfect boyfriend. Except...when she gets trapped in an elevator with a handsome stranger, she accidentally confesses a secret: maybe her perfect boyfriend, Justin, isn’t so perfect for her after all. But a matchmaker should be able to successfully match herself, right? Thankfully, she’ll never see the handsome stranger again. Until she heads home with Justin for the holidays and learns that the sexy stranger is none other than Justin’s older brother, Matt.

Matt Ellis is trying to be on his best behavior for his mother—it is Christmas, after all. But when he recognizes the beautiful woman from the elevator—the one he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about for months—his best behavior is being held by a thread. Matt’s always sacrificed for his family, and nothing is more important than their happiness, but the more time he spends around Kennedy, the more he wonders if her supposed "right match" might just be the wrong brother.

EXCERPT

Kennedy grew silent again. She began chewing her bottom lip. His eyes automatically dropped to her mouth, and for the forty-eighth time since being trapped together, he thought about kissing some sense into that anxious brain of hers.

“You’re right.” Her words were so soft, he wasn’t sure she’d spoken them. “He’s wonderful. Really awesome. But honestly…” She gave him a sharp if slightly tipsy look. “I’ve never said this to anyone, so you can’t tell a soul.”

He gave her a droll look. “Who am I going to tell?”

She stared him down for several seconds as if judging his sincerity. “Cross your heart?”

“Cross my heart,” he repeated, making the motion against his chest.

“Okay.” She bit her lip. “It’s just that…sometimes I doubt we’re meant for each other.”

“Really?”

“Yes. I know it’s crazy,” she murmured. “Especially since I can’t afford for my software to be wrong.”

Before he could respond, the lights overhead flickered. Her head whipped up toward the ceiling. “Thank God!” The elated expression on her face reminded him of a child watching fireworks go off. “We’re finally going to get out of here,” she squealed.

“Yeah…awesome.” Matt swallowed hard. He should be happy, too. Why the hell wasn’t he happy? He’d finally be out of this cramped elevator and away from this anxiety-ridden woman with her boyfriend issues. But instead, all he could do was bank down a strange sense of disappointment at the thought of her walking through those elevator doors and him never seeing her again.

He stood first then held out his hand to help her up. Her palm met his, and he tugged just as the elevator began to move again, causing them to lose their balance. His back slammed against the wall, and she fell into his arms.

“Nice catch,” she said with a laugh, obviously still feeling the effects of the champagne.

Matt held on to her, his heart beating wildly. Having her in his arms ignited all kinds of thoughts, all kinds of feelings. Naughty thoughts. Good feelings. His gaze captured hers for a long moment until eventually her smiling face grew serious, too. Then his conscience tapped him on the shoulder.

What the hell do you think you’re doing? it said. You’ve both been drinking. And she has a boyfriend.

 He’d always hated his conscience.

“Matt?”

Matt didn’t move. The elevator was going to open soon. They would be free to leave separately or leave together. There was still a choice. Growing up, he had always been the one to toe the line. Do what was right for everyone else in his life. But so help him, he didn’t want to do that this time. Maybe it was the alcohol, but he wanted her. True, the woman had a boyfriend—a neglectful boyfriend—but still, there were rules for that sort of thing, weren’t there? Like what if…

Screw it.

He kissed her.

Sublime in Lime!

WHAT JENN IS WORKING ON RIGHT NOW: Edits for Bliss Book #1 (that's what I'm calling it since it has no title) and Writing Bliss Book #2 (also no title yet)

WHAT JENN IS READING RIGHT NOW: Lost and Found Sisters by Jill Shalvis

Hey, all!

If you recall last month, I told you I had a Gala event to go to and decided to "rent" a gown using Rent the Runway.
Well. In short, SUCCESS!

Rent the Runway was super easy to use. I had them send me a gown that I chose (in 2 sizes) and I ordered a backup gown, just in case. Both gowns looked great. In fact, they looked so great I had a hard time deciding which one to wear and made my decision an hour before I had to get dressed. LOL

If you recall, these are the two gowns I had chosen:

I ended up wearing the LIME GREEN, because it was just so different and summery. You can't tell in the picture but it had a bit of a train in the back. Really pretty in person.

Here are some pictures of me from that night:

I would definitely use this site again if I had an event to go to. They make the return super easy as well.

What do you think? Did I convince you? Would you "rent" a gown through this site?

Until next time,
Jennifer
